Adrenal Fatigue Treatment in Huntington Beach, CA

Many people arrive already using the phrase adrenal fatigue. What they usually describe is a stress pattern: wired at night, flat in the morning, and worn out by training. This page explains how that story is reviewed through a cortisol curve and your history, without treating the phrase as a formal diagnosis. For patients coming from Huntington Beach, the office is about 22 miles away, 30–45 minutes, by the 405 south to the 73 toward Mission Viejo.

The phrase people use, and the pattern underneath

You might say you are tired but wired, that coffee is the only reason mornings start, or that a workout you used to enjoy now takes days to repay. People often call that adrenal fatigue. FRI does not treat those words as a formal diagnosis, and it does not say your adrenal glands are burned out.

The working idea is an HPA axis pattern. The hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands coordinate cortisol across the day. Illness, grief, under-eating, pain, and a job that never ends can change that rhythm. Dr. Sani Kohen, D.C. and Dr. Tara Kohen, D.C. start with the story, not a label.

A cortisol curve, read as a daily rhythm

Cortisol should be higher after waking and lower at night. A curve can be flat, late, or stuck high in the evening. Each shape suggests different questions about sleep timing, blood sugar, and load. None of those shapes is a verdict that a gland has failed.

DUTCH hormone testing collects dried urine through the day so the cortisol rhythm and related metabolites can be seen together. It is one tool, read beside how you actually sleep and train. It is not proof of a disease called adrenal fatigue, and it is not a stimulant plan.

Sleep timing and training load change the rhythm

A late bedtime, a 5 a.m. alarm, and a high-intensity week stacked on poor food will show up in how you feel by Thursday. Shift work and newborn sleep do the same. FRI asks what the last three months of training and sleep looked like before talking about supplements.

Pain that wakes you also belongs here. If the neck, low back, or a joint is the reason you never reach deep sleep, Chiropractic Sports Medicine may matter as much as a hormone kit. You can read sleep and insomnia for the overlap between pain, caffeine, and the night cortisol question.

What testing can say, and what it cannot

A DUTCH curve can support a conversation about rhythm. It cannot diagnose adrenal fatigue, because that is not how FRI uses the phrase. If your physician is worried about true adrenal disease, such as extreme weakness, weight loss, or skin darkening, that evaluation belongs in medical care, not a wellness panel.

Functional medicine at FRI does not replace a primary physician, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, or mental health clinician. Nutrition and supplementation are matched to sleep, food, and the curve you produced. There is no brand protocol and no dose listed on this page.

What to expect when you are seen for Adrenal Fatigue

Book a complimentary 20-minute consultation if you want to see whether this workup fits. The office is out of network, offers superbills, and accepts HSA and FSA payment. Hours are Monday–Thursday, 9–6.

You will be asked about morning energy, evening alertness, caffeine, illness, and training. If a cortisol map is ordered, you collect it across a day at home. Results are explained without renaming your glands as failed.

Surf, sand, and the inland drive from Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach lives on the water in a different way than the harbor cities. Downtown and the pier, Bolsa Chica, Seacliff, and Huntington Harbour each produce a different week. Surfing, beach volleyball, and long walks on the sand load the feet, knees, and low back. A desk job inland, or a shift that ends with PCH traffic, loads the neck. We ask about that sequence because a shoulder that hurts after a dawn patrol is not examined the same way as a shoulder that hurts after a day at a laptop. The sand itself matters: barefoot time on an unstable surface changes what we look at in a gait exam.

The drive is the other half of the week. Getting from Main Street or from the harbour to south county is a real trip, about 22 miles, often 30 to 45 minutes on the 405 south to the 73. People who make it have usually decided they want an exam that lasts longer than a lunch break. If you are closer to a high-volume office on Beach Boulevard and you still drive inland, say so. It helps us understand what you already tried.

Arriving at La Alameda from the 405

From Huntington Beach, the usual path is the 405 south, then the 73 toll road toward Mission Viejo, exiting toward La Alameda. The suite is 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Parking is at the building. The clinic is open Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6. A mid-morning visit is the least painful return to the coast. An end-of-day visit means sitting in 405 traffic with whatever we just asked your back to do, so we will tell you if a same-day training session is a bad idea.

Call (949) 312-1754 or book the complimentary 20-minute consultation online if you want to test the fit before a full evaluation. Bring prior imaging if you have it, but do not delay the visit waiting for an MRI you have not been told you need. Many spine and joint problems can be examined without new pictures. If the story sounds like something that needs a physician or an emergency department first, we will say that plainly.

What Huntington Beach patients tend to ask us to sort out

Board sports and volleyball show up as shoulder pain and knee pain. Walking the soft sand and standing in a retail or clinic shift show up as plantar fasciitis and hip pain. Neck symptoms after the drive are worth separating from a shoulder problem, which is why a visit for an arm complaint still includes the neck. Neurodynamic testing is how we check whether a nerve is mechanosensitive rather than guessing from the ZIP code.

Not every Huntington Beach patient is an athlete. Sleep, reflux, and cycle symptoms come in from the same households. Those visits use Functional Medicine tools such as a thyroid panel or GI-MAP when the history supports the test. We do not order a kitchen-sink panel to look thorough. You can read the city overview on the Huntington Beach chiropractor page.

Questions patients ask

Do you diagnose adrenal fatigue?

No. Many people use that phrase for a real experience of feeling drained and wired. FRI does not call adrenal fatigue a formal diagnosis and does not describe the adrenal glands as burned out. The visit looks at your story and, when it fits, the cortisol rhythm on a DUTCH test. True adrenal disease needs your physician.

What does the cortisol curve show?

It shows how cortisol is patterned from morning to night, not a single pass-or-fail number. A high evening value raises different questions than a flat morning. FRI reads that shape next to sleep, food, pain, and training load. The curve does not tell you to start a stimulant, and it does not set a supplement dose.

Can hard training create this pattern?

Heavy training on short sleep and low fuel is a common story in this office. The fix may be changing load, meal timing, and bedtime before any product is added. Neuromuscular Rehabilitation can help if your mechanics are breaking down under that load. A hormone kit does not replace recovery.

Should I stop caffeine before the test?

Ask before you change a daily habit for a lab. Caffeine, sleep aids, and steroid medications can matter, and your physician should guide anything that is prescribed. FRI will tell you how the collection day is supposed to look. Do not stop a prescription on your own to make a chart look cleaner.
