Mold Toxicity Treatment in Fountain Valley, CA

Some people feel worse after months in a water-damaged building: fatigue, fog, sinus congestion, or a taste of must in the air. Urine mycotoxin testing can be one part of that workup. It does not prove every tired person has a mold problem, and this clinic does not remediate buildings. For patients coming from Fountain Valley, the office is about 20 miles away, 30–45 minutes, by the 405 south to the 73 toward Mission Viejo.

What people report after a water-damaged building

You may describe a basement that flooded, a roof leak that was painted over, or an apartment that smelled sweet and damp. Symptoms people report include fatigue, brain fog, congestion, headaches, and a cough that eased when they left for a week. The building history is the reason to look, not the fatigue alone.

Dr. Tara Kohen, D.C. and Dr. Sani Kohen, D.C. ask where you sleep, where you work, and whether symptoms change on trips. Functional Medicine does not assume mold because you are tired. If the building story is absent, another explanation stays in front.

Urine mycotoxin testing inside a broader workup

Mycotoxin testing uses a urine sample to look for mycotoxins, which are compounds some molds can produce. It can be part of a workup when the history fits. A result is not a map of your walls, and it is not a diagnosis of a building.

Common drivers are still checked. Thyroid pace, iron, and sleep can copy this picture. The chronic fatigue and brain fog pages describe those differentials. An organic acids test is optional metabolic context, not a mold detector.

The clinic does not fix buildings

FRI does not remediate buildings, test drywall, or tell you a contractor is finished. If water damage is ongoing, an indoor-environment professional and your physician are the right next calls. A urine test cannot dry a wall.

Leaving an exposure, when that is possible, is a practical conversation, not a product pitch. Nutrition is supportive and individual. There is no brand detox protocol and no dose on this page. Supplements do not replace fixing the water problem.

A different question from heavy metals

Mold and metals both get filed under toxins, and they are different exposures. Mycotoxin urine testing does not measure lead or mercury. A fish-heavy diet or a workplace with solder belongs on the heavy metal page. FRI will not run both as a scare panel.

Functional medicine at FRI does not replace a primary physician, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, or mental health clinician. Breathing trouble, a high fever, or chest pain needs medical care. Nutrition and supplementation follows your history, not a mold headline.

What to expect when you are seen for Mold Toxicity

Start with a complimentary 20-minute consultation and bring the building story, not only a symptom list. FRI is out of network, provides superbills, and accepts HSA and FSA funds. Hours are Monday–Thursday, 9–6.

If a urine mycotoxin test is used, you will be told what it can and cannot say about your home. Other fatigue drivers are not skipped. You will not be told that every case of tiredness is mold. Name the building, the year of the leak, and whether a week away changes how you feel before any urine test is discussed.

405 to the 73

Take the 405 south to the 73 toward Mission Viejo, then to La Alameda. About 20 miles and 30 to 45 minutes. The address is 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Park at the building. Hours run Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6. Leaving Fountain Valley after 4 and expecting a calm neck exam is optimistic. Book earlier.

Phone (949) 312-1754. The complimentary consultation is 20 minutes. Use it if the drive makes you want a smaller first commitment. If you already know you want testing, book the evaluation so we are not talking in circles.

Techniques and medical problems we will and will not own

Neurodynamics and McKenzie Method care are central for nerve and disc patterns. Gait analysis earns its place when the Mile Square loop and the sidewalk tell different stories. Cupping is a decompression tool, not a detox.

We also see metabolic syndrome and diabetes questions beside the physician who manages medication. We do not change those drugs. The city page is the Fountain Valley chiropractor page.

Payment

Out of network. Superbill. HSA and FSA. No referral. Bring a medication list if you want labs or if you are here for a systemic symptom. Imaging is helpful and not required for every back pain visit.

Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen are on the about page. The building is on the office page.

Mile Square, a flat grid, and long freeway days

Fountain Valley is flat, which sounds simple and is not. Mile Square Park gives people a long, level loop for walking and cycling. The rest of the city is a grid of Slater, Brookhurst, and Euclid: short drives, a lot of sitting, and jobs that may be in the city or up the 405. A flat park loop is a clean test of walking tolerance. Pain that waits until the car, not the loop, points us at sitting and at the spine rather than at a hill that does not exist here.

Low back pain and sciatica are evaluated with that distinction. Neck pain often belongs to the 405. Knee pain in cyclists around Mile Square gets a bike-and-hip history, not a generic brace.

Extra context on Mold Toxicity

Sketch the building before you sketch the symptoms. Note the year of the leak, whether materials were removed or only painted, and whether you feel different after a week away. Name the rooms where you sleep. A couch in a damp basement is a different exposure from an office you visit monthly. If other people in the home have congestion or nosebleeds, mention that without diagnosing them. Bring any air or dust reports you already paid for so the visit does not pretend to be an inspection. Photos of visible mold are for your environmental professional. They are context here, not a lab.

While the building question is open, ordinary medical drivers still get their turn. A thyroid panel or a check of iron can explain fog and fatigue even in a musty house. Running only a mycotoxin test and skipping those is how a real, treatable problem gets missed. Chiropractic Sports Medicine does not clear a toxin. It can still treat the neck or back pain that showed up in the same year. Keep your physician in the plan if asthma, sinus disease, or immune suppression is already on your chart. A week away from the building is useful history.

Questions patients ask

Does fatigue mean I have mold toxicity?

No. FRI does not claim all fatigue is mold. A water-damaged building, a leak, or a musty home is what makes mycotoxin testing relevant. Without that history, thyroid, iron, sleep, and mood stay ahead of a mold story. Urine testing can be part of a workup. It is not the first explanation for every exhausted person.

Can you test or repair my house?

No. FRI does not remediate buildings, inspect drywall, or certify that a cleanup worked. Urine mycotoxin testing looks at a urine sample, not at a room. If water damage is active, you need an environmental professional and your physician. A clinic visit cannot dry a wall or cancel a lease.

How is this different from heavy metal testing?

Mycotoxin testing asks about compounds associated with some molds. Heavy metal testing asks about elements such as lead or mercury, usually from water, work, fish, or a hobby. The histories differ, and the samples are not interchangeable. FRI does not order both just because the word toxin came up.

Will a positive urine test start a detox protocol?

A positive result is discussed in context, including whether you are still in the building. It is not an automatic product stack. FRI does not use a brand detox protocol or a published dose list. Nutrition is individualized. Your primary physician remains involved, especially if breathing symptoms or immune disease are already diagnosed.
