PCOS Treatment in Yorba Linda, CA

PCOS often shows up as irregular cycles, acne or unwanted hair, and a metabolic picture that includes waist size and glucose. Diagnosis using formal criteria belongs to your physician. This page describes how labs, food, and inflammation are reviewed beside that diagnosis, without a hormone dose or a promised result. For patients coming from Yorba Linda, the office is about 28 miles away, 35–55 minutes, by the 241 toll road south to Mission Viejo.

Cycle irregularity and androgen signs

You may go months without a period, then bleed heavily, or you may never know when the next cycle will start. Acne along the jaw, hair growth on the face or abdomen, and thinning hair at the scalp are the androgen signs people actually report. Those clues are not a self-diagnosis.

Ovulation can be infrequent, which is why cycles stretch out. Drs. Sani Kohen, D.C. and Tara Kohen, D.C. ask how long this has been true, what changed with weight or stress, and which physician, if any, has already used the Rotterdam criteria. FRI does not apply that diagnosis in place of your doctor.

Metabolism sits beside the ovaries

Many people with this pattern also watch glucose, triglycerides, and waist size. Hunger can spike, energy can crash after meals, and weight can gather at the middle even when you feel you are eating carefully. That metabolic context is part of the story, not a character flaw.

A page on metabolic syndrome covers the cluster your physician may already be tracking. PCOS and that cluster overlap often enough to ask about both, and they are not the same label. Sleep apnea, which is more common when this pattern is present, should be evaluated by a physician if you snore and stay tired.

Labs FRI can organize with your physician

DUTCH hormone testing can describe androgen and progesterone metabolites and the cortisol curve across a day. It does not replace an ultrasound or the diagnostic criteria your physician uses. It adds a hormone pattern to symptoms you can point to on a calendar.

Advanced bloodwork may include glucose markers, lipids, and a thyroid panel when fatigue or cycle changes could have more than one driver. FRI does not invent cutoffs. Abnormal results go back to the physician who manages diagnosis and any prescription.

Food and inflammation without a canned plan

Nutrition is discussed from your labs, your cycle, and what you can sustain. Some people do better with a steadier meal rhythm and more protein at breakfast. That is an individual conversation. There is no brand protocol, no supplement dose, and no bioidentical hormone recipe on this page.

Functional medicine at FRI does not replace a primary physician, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, or mental health clinician. If a clinician has prescribed metformin or a contraceptive for this pattern, you do not stop it because of a visit here. Nutrition and supplementation stays beside that care.

What to expect when you are seen for PCOS

A complimentary 20-minute consultation lets you ask whether FRI fits before any test is ordered. The practice is out of network. Superbills are provided, and HSA or FSA funds can be used. Hours are Monday–Thursday, 9–6.

Bring cycle dates, prior labs, and the name of the physician following you. Testing is chosen from that history. You should expect a talk about food and sleep, not a promise about fertility or a number on the scale.

Rehab that respects the hill and the saddle

Gait and posture and corrective exercise are more useful than a generic core list. Joint mobilization is often kinder than a hard thrust when a hip or spine is already irritable from the week's riding. ART is there for specific soft-tissue restrictions, not as a standing massage appointment.

Hormone and sleep questions from this commute are real. Perimenopause and sleep pages describe the limits of what we take on. The Yorba Linda chiropractor page is the hub.

The non-negotiables

Out of network, superbill, HSA/FSA. No referral. We do not replace your physician, your vet is not our department, and we do not give riding clearance against another clinician's restriction. Bring that restriction with you.

Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen practice at the Mission Viejo suite. The about page and office page introduce them and the building.

Hills, horses, and the 241

Yorba Linda is hills, larger lots, and a trail culture that includes horses as well as hikers. Black Gold and the canyon edges mean repeated time in a saddle or on a grade. The 241 is how a lot of the city reaches south county for work. Sitting the toll road and then riding, or the reverse, is a specific week. Hip and SI pain, low back pain, and neck pain all show up in that combination. A saddle and a car seat are not the same posture, and the exam should not pretend they are.

Brush-canyon fire season and hot training days also change hydration and headaches. Headaches still get a neurologic screen. We do not blame every headache on the Santa Ana winds. Knee pain on the descents gets a loading plan that includes the hill you live on.

Using the 241 instead of crossing the county sideways

The 241 south is the route that makes Yorba Linda to Mission Viejo rational. It is a toll road, about 28 miles, often 35 to 55 minutes depending on where in town you start and whether you hit the 91 first. Exit toward La Alameda and come to 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6. Parking at the building.

If you already take the 241 toward Irvine for work, a Mission Viejo appointment can sit on the south end of a day you were driving anyway. Say so when you book. Call (949) 312-1754. The 20-minute consultation is reasonable before you commit a toll-road morning to a full evaluation.

Extra context on PCOS

A cycle log is more useful than a vague memory of irregular periods. Mark bleeding days, spotting, and the weeks you felt jawline acne or breast tenderness. Note what you ate on the days energy crashed, and whether those crashes followed a long gap between meals. If a physician already ordered glucose or lipid labs, bring them. FRI would rather read your existing numbers than repeat work for no reason. Androgen symptoms and metabolic symptoms can move on different timelines, so write them as two lists. Bring that log to the visit.

Training helps many people with this pattern, and it fails when the plan ignores sleep and under-fueling. If hips, knees, or the low back hurt enough to skip sessions, Chiropractic Sports Medicine and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation can look at how you load those joints. Functional Medicine still handles the lab and nutrition questions. Neither pillar replaces your endocrinologist or primary physician. The goal is a plan you can keep, not a short burst of rules you abandon. Ask which part of the plan stays with your physician before you change any prescription.

Questions patients ask

Can FRI diagnose PCOS for me?

No. The Rotterdam criteria, and the decision to use them, belong to the diagnosing physician. FRI can help you organize symptoms, cycle history, and labs such as a DUTCH test and advanced bloodwork. Those results can be shared with your physician. They are not a substitute for an exam, an ultrasound, or a formal diagnosis.

Will a DUTCH test replace my other labs?

It answers a different question. Dried urine can show hormone metabolites and a cortisol curve. It does not replace glucose testing, lipids, or the imaging your physician may order. FRI reads the DUTCH pattern next to bleeding dates and androgen symptoms. Medication, if any, stays with the prescriber.

Do you prescribe hormones for PCOS?

FRI does not set bioidentical hormone doses or any other hormone prescription. If you and your physician are considering that care, the dose and the monitoring belong in that medical relationship. Here the work is nutrition, lab context, sleep, and inflammation questions. You will not be handed a protocol copied from a book.

What if weight is the reason I called?

Weight can be part of the metabolic picture, and it is not the only measure that matters. Cycle regularity, energy after meals, and lab trends are discussed without a promised loss in pounds. Pain that stops you from training can be addressed with corrective work in the same office. No GLP-1 claim is made here.
