Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas. While the exact cause is unknown, it is believed to involve abnormalities in the way the nervous system processes pain signals. There is also a growing body of evidence suggesting that it may be related to dysfunction of the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles and other tissues in the body.
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of fibromyalgia include widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive difficulties, and headaches. Widespread pain is a hallmark of fibromyalgia, affecting both sides of the body and above and below the waist. Fatigue can be severe and debilitating, and sleep disturbances can include difficulty falling or staying asleep. Cognitive difficulties can range from forgetfulness to difficulty concentrating, and headaches can be tension-type or migraine-like.
