Town Center days and Aliso Canyon edges
Aliso Viejo is compact, master planned, and hillier than it looks from the 73. The Town Center is errands, sitting, and short walks. The neighborhoods toward Aliso and Wood Canyons add dirt descents and stairs. A lot of residents commute north to Irvine business parks and then come home to a hill. Necks take the office. Knees take the canyon. We want both halves of that day, because treating only the part that hurts ignores the part that loaded it.
The canyon trails are a gift and a test. People start plantar fascia or knee complaints after they add mileage on dirt while their week is otherwise a chair. Gait analysis and a loading plan are more useful than a month of rest followed by the same trail.
Alicia, Pacific Park, and the 73
From the Town Center, Alicia Parkway toward Mission Viejo is direct. From the south and west edges, Pacific Park or the 73 north to a Mission Viejo exit also works. About 7 miles and 12 to 20 minutes when the parkways move. The suite is 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. On-site parking. Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6.
If your day already includes the 73 toll road to Irvine, stacking a clinic visit on the south end of that drive can be efficient. Do not book so tight that you walk in from a stressful drive and expect a meaningful neck exam. Call (949) 312-1754. The complimentary consultation is 20 minutes if you want to start smaller.
Care that fits a canyon-and-commute city
Neck pain, lower back pain, and headaches track with the Irvine commute. Hip and SI pain tracks with hills and carrying kids up them. Joint mobilization and corrective exercise are everyday tools. McKenzie care is the spine option when symptoms have a direction that centralizes them.
Hormone and gut visits are part of the same practice. Perimenopause and SIBO have their own pages so those questions are not buried under sports advice. The Aliso Viejo chiropractor page is the hub.
Straightforward office policies
No referral required. Out of network. Superbill. HSA and FSA. We do not invent a copay. Labs, if ordered, cost extra and are explained first. Medication stays with your prescriber.
You will see Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen's practice, described on the about page. Photos of the gym and rooms are on the office page. If a problem is outside chiropractic and functional medicine, we will say so rather than stretch the visit to cover it.
Autoimmune Conditions
This page is for you if a physician has already diagnosed an autoimmune disease, or if that physician is still sorting a suspicion. FRI does not replace rheumatology. Support can include gut questions, food, sleep, and movement so joints stay usable. None of that is offered as a way to clear the disease. The local page is Autoimmune Conditions treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Chronic Inflammation
Inflammation is a process your body uses, not a personality and not a mood. It can be useful while you heal and costly when it never settles. This page covers blood markers a physician may already have, plus food, sleep, training load, gums, and gut, without a miracle anti-inflammatory stack. The local page is Chronic Inflammation treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Weight Loss
Weight is a metabolic conversation, not a willpower score. Thyroid pace, glucose, sleep, hormones, and muscle all change how your body handles food and training. If pain is why you cannot train, that belongs in the plan. This page does not promise a number of pounds, and it is not about GLP-1 drugs. The local page is Weight Loss treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Diabetes
Most of this page is about type 2 diabetes support beside the physician who manages your glucose. Type 1 medication is entirely the endocrinologist's. Nutrition, strength, and labs can sit next to that care. You should not stop metformin, insulin, or glucose monitoring because of anything you read here. The local page is Diabetes treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster your physician recognizes: waist size, blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol. FRI does not replace that diagnosis. The role here is lifestyle, nutrition, and labs beside the physician who is already following the cluster, without a promised change in any single number. The local page is Metabolic Syndrome treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Sleep & Insomnia
Sleep problems have a clock, a chemistry, and often a body part that hurts. Caffeine, a late bedtime, a cortisol curve, thyroid pace, and pain that wakes you are different questions. FRI is not a sleep-medicine laboratory. If apnea is suspected, a physician should evaluate that directly. The local page is Sleep & Insomnia treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Anxiety & Mood
Worry, a flat mood, and a short temper are reasons people call, and they are not a lab diagnosis. FRI is not a psychiatry or therapy practice. Sleep, thyroid, iron, B12, gut symptoms, and cycle hormones can be looked at as contributors while you keep the mental health care you already have. The local page is Anxiety & Mood treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain names a region, not a single disease. Bending, sitting, standing, and walking can each provoke a different tissue, and the same ache can come from a disc, a facet joint, or the pelvic joints. This page explains how those patterns are sorted in the clinic and what a movement-based plan can include. The local page is Lower Back Pain treatment for Aliso Viejo.
Organic Acids Test
An organic acids test looks at urine metabolites that can reflect gut microbial byproducts, a higher demand for certain nutrients, and signs of mitochondrial strain. Functional Restoration Institute treats the page as a snapshot to discuss, not a verdict. It sits in the Functional Medicine pillar. Dr. Tara Kohen uses it to choose the next question, especially when gut symptoms and fatigue are both in the story. Details for this city are on Organic Acids Test.
Questions patients ask
How long is the drive from Aliso Viejo?
About 7 miles and 12 to 20 minutes by Alicia Parkway or Pacific Park to 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691.
I commute to Irvine and hike the canyon. Which problem do you treat first?
Whichever is limiting you, after an exam that looks at both. A neck plan that ignores eight hours at a desk will fail, and a knee plan that ignores the canyon descent will fail. The history is how we set the order.
Can I book labs and chiropractic together?
You can be a patient of both pillars. The tests are chosen after a history, not stacked onto a chiropractic visit automatically. Start with the consultation if you are unsure which question matters more.
Do you bill insurance directly?
No. We are out of network and give you a superbill. Call (949) 312-1754 to schedule.
