San Clemente Chiropractor

San Clemente patients drive about 16 miles north on I-5, usually 22–35 minutes, to Functional Restoration Institute at 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100 in Mission Viejo. Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen offer chiropractic sports medicine, neuromuscular rehabilitation, and functional medicine under one roof.

Pier Bowl, Talega grades, and Trestles mornings

San Clemente has two terrains that matter clinically. The Pier Bowl, the beach trail, and the streets near the water are relatively level and sandy. Talega, Forster Ranch, and the newer hills are the opposite: repeated grades, youth sports, and a drive just to reach I-5. Surfing at Trestles and along the pier loads shoulders and low backs. Hill neighborhoods load knees on the way down and necks on the drive. We ask which part of town you live in because the home program has to match the grade outside.

A lot of San Clemente patients are trying to stay active while working north of here. The I-5 commute itself is a sitting test. If your low back or sciatica eases when you walk the beach trail and worsens in the car, that detail changes the exam. Tell us the direction of the commute and how long you sit, not only where it hurts.

Coming north on I-5 to the clinic

The drive is I-5 north through San Juan Capistrano into Mission Viejo, about 16 miles. Without a slowdown it is a little over 20 minutes. A backup through the Capistrano stretch pushes it toward 35. Exit for the La Alameda side of Mission Viejo and come to 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, CA 92691. Parking is on site. The doors are open Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6.

Because the drive is simple, people sometimes stack a visit onto a day that already includes a surf and a commute. Say if that is the plan. We may want the exam before the surf, or we may want you to skip the session that morning so the tests mean something. Call (949) 312-1754 if you are sorting the order. The 20-minute consultation can be the first appointment if you are not ready for a full evaluation.

Services that match this coastline

Board sports and trail hills make shoulder, neck, and knee complaints ordinary reasons to come north. McKenzie-based spine care is a fit when back or leg pain has a clear directional preference. Corrective exercise is how a Talega hill gets written into the plan instead of fought with a generic core sheet.

Families also come for problems that are not sports. Thyroid, sleep, and migraine questions are evaluated with the limits those conditions require. A migraine plan does not replace a neurologist. A thyroid plan does not replace the prescriber. Read the city overview at the San Clemente chiropractor page.

Before you get on the 5

No referral is required. Bring shoes you hike or walk the trail in if the foot or knee is the issue. Prior MRIs are useful and not mandatory. If you have bowel or bladder changes, saddle numbness, or a rapidly weakening leg, do not drive past an emergency department to reach us.

The practice is out of network. San Clemente patients typically use HSA or FSA funds and a superbill. We will not guess your benefits. The doctors are Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen. Their biographies are on the about page, and the clinic layout is on the office page.

Whiplash

Whiplash is an acceleration injury, usually from a crash or a fall, not a stiff neck you slept on. Ligaments, joints, muscles, and sometimes the balance system can be involved. Symptoms may wait a day or two. Care is cautious, coordinated with other physicians when the injury is acute or part of a legal claim, and never tied to a fixed visit count. The local page is Whiplash treatment for San Clemente.

Scoliosis

A structural scoliosis is a rotated spinal curve. A functional posture can look curved and is not the same thing. Functional Restoration Institute does not claim to straighten a structural curve in adults. Care is aimed at pain, movement control, and how much load you tolerate. Bracing and breathing decisions stay with the physician who manages the curve. The local page is Scoliosis treatment for San Clemente.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis means a narrowed canal or opening, often producing leg symptoms that limit walking and ease when you sit or lean forward. Extension is frequently a sensitive direction. Circulation problems can look similar and belong with a physician. Flexion-biased movement, mobilization, and conditioning may help. Surgery remains a surgeon's decision. The local page is Spinal Stenosis treatment for San Clemente.

Rotator Cuff Injuries

Rotator cuff injuries here means overload or strain of the tendons that steer and stabilize the shoulder, not an automatic surgical label. A painful lifting arc and true weakness are the clinical clues. A tear on an MRI does not, by itself, require an operation. Care builds tendon load gradually, treats irritable tissue, and restores scapular control. The local page is Rotator Cuff Injuries treatment for San Clemente.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is a capsular problem that moves through painful, stiff, and thawing stages. Forcing range usually flares it. Care uses gentle joint mobilization, motion that respects pain, and scapular or DNS work so the whole shoulder girdle is not abandoned. Diabetes is associated for some people and is not treated on this page. The local page is Frozen Shoulder treatment for San Clemente.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is irritation of the median nerve at the wrist, often with night tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers and a grip that feels clumsy. The neck can refer similar symptoms and has to be screened. Neurodynamics and soft tissue work may help milder cases. Severe weakness or thenar wasting should also see a physician. The local page is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome treatment for San Clemente.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is widespread pain with heightened sensitivity, alongside poor sleep, fatigue, and a mind that feels foggy. Functional Restoration Institute does not claim to cure it. Care may work on movement tolerance, a more stable sleep schedule, and pacing. Gut, hormone, or inflammation questions are opened only when your history actually points there. Questions patients ask

How long does it take from San Clemente?

About 16 miles and 22 to 35 minutes on I-5 north to 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo. Traffic through San Juan Capistrano is the usual reason the drive runs long.

I live in Talega. Does the hill change the exercise plan?

It should. Downhill walking and the drive out of the neighborhood are part of the history. A plan written for a flat street will not match a Talega week, so tell us about the grade on the first visit.

Can I come in for sciatica that is worse in the car than on the beach trail?

Yes. That pattern is useful. We test nerve tension and lumbar movements, including whether symptoms centralize, and we separate true nerve-root pain from other causes of leg pain.

Do you accept insurance?

We are out of network, provide superbills, and accept HSA and FSA cards. Call (949) 312-1754 with scheduling questions.
