Scoliosis Treatment in Dana Point, CA

A structural scoliosis is a rotated spinal curve. A functional posture can look curved and is not the same thing. Functional Restoration Institute does not claim to straighten a structural curve in adults. Care is aimed at pain, movement control, and how much load you tolerate. Bracing and breathing decisions stay with the physician who manages the curve. For patients coming from Dana Point, the office is about 11 miles away, 18–30 minutes, by I-5 north to the La Paz or Oso Parkway exits.

A structural curve is not the same as a slump

A structural curve remains when you bend forward and usually includes rotation, sometimes a rib prominence. A functional shift can come from pain, a leg-length difference, or a habit, and it can reduce when the cause is addressed. Gait and postural analysis helps show which one you are looking at. It does not replace a physician's measurement.

You may already know your Cobb angle. Bring it if you do. This office will not invent a new angle from a posture photo. The number is the managing physician's measurement. Our question is what hurts and what you cannot do because of the curve or the muscles guarding it.

Pain and load tolerance, not curve erasure

Adult care here is about pain and capacity. You might be limited in standing, lifting, or breathing comfort during effort, even when the curve itself is stable. Corrective exercise trains control in the ranges you have, so load is shared instead of piled on one hinge.

Chiropractic adjustments or mobilization may ease a painful segment near the curve. They are not a method for straightening a structural scoliosis in an adult, and you will not be told otherwise. If someone promised to erase the curve, that promise did not come from Functional Restoration Institute.

Breathing and bracing stay with the managing physician

Questions about a brace, Schroth-type programs supervised elsewhere, or breathing restrictions belong with the physician or therapist who manages the curve. We will not override that plan or duplicate it poorly. If you have a brace, say when you wear it so exercise does not fight the schedule.

Pain at the apex, rib irritation, and one-sided muscle fatigue are fair game for hands-on care and conditioning. Neuromuscular Rehabilitation is the pillar for the conditioning. The curve's medical management stays where it already lives.

Adolescents whose curves are still changing

An adolescent with a curve that is progressing needs the physician managing that curve, not a chiropractic plan that implies the progression is handled. This office can help pain and movement. It does not take over growth-related decisions, bracing thresholds, or surgical timing.

New bowel or bladder changes, saddle numbness, rapidly worsening weakness, fever with spine pain, or significant trauma belong in emergency care, not a routine visit. Those signs are not scoliosis soreness. They are a different problem and they should not wait on a posture visit.

What to expect when you are seen for Scoliosis

The visit distinguishes a structural curve from a painful posture, reviews any measurements you already have, and finds which movements hurt. Treatment is for those painful limits. You will hear, plainly, that adult structural curves are not straightened here.

Exercise is progressed by what you can lift, stand, or breathe through, not by a hope of a smaller angle. If you are a teen, or the parent of one, and the curve is changing, you will be pointed back to the physician who measures it.

The short I-5 hop to La Alameda

From the harbor and from most of Dana Point, I-5 north to La Paz or Oso, then local streets to La Alameda, is the straightforward drive. About 11 miles, often 18 to 30 minutes. Summer beach traffic on PCH and a slow I-5 can add time, so do not cut the appointment to the minute. The suite is 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Building parking. Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6.

You are close enough that a course of care does not have to be an all-day project. That proximity is useful only if the visits are worth making. We would rather see you less often with a clear home plan than park you on a standing weekly adjustment. Phone (949) 312-1754. The complimentary 20-minute consultation is the low-stakes way to decide.

Care Dana Point patients use most

Boat and board use points us toward shoulder pain, neck pain, and lower back pain. Cliff paths and the strand point toward knee pain and plantar fasciitis. A gait and posture exam is more useful here than a generic stretch sheet when the foot is spending half its life on a deck and half on pavement.

Digestive complaints show up too, especially in people who eat late after being on the water all day. Gut health and SIBO pages explain how we think about testing. A SIBO breath test is one tool, used when the symptom pattern fits, not as a default. The city hub is the Dana Point chiropractor page.

Practical details before you leave the harbor

Bring the shoes you actually walk in, including deck shoes if that is your day. Imaging reports help when you already have them. You do not need a referral. If another physician is following a fracture, a post-op joint, or a medication, tell us their name so care stays coordinated. We do not change prescriptions.

Fees are out of network. Superbills and HSA/FSA cards are the usual path for Dana Point patients. Confirm reimbursement with your plan. Meet the doctors on the about page and see the clinic on the office page before the drive if that makes the first visit easier.

Harbor work, headlands hiking, and Doheny mornings

Dana Point splits into a few physical lives. The harbor means lines, decks, and carrying gear. Doheny and the strand mean sand and boards. Monarch Beach and the Headlands mean stairs and cliff paths. Lantern Village means more standing and short walks. A low back that hurts after a morning on a boat is questioned differently from a low back that hurts after a desk above Pacific Coast Highway. Tell us which Dana Point you actually use during the week.

Wind and cool mornings also change how people warm up. Many patients go from a still house to a cold deck without any ramp. That is not a moral failing. It is a reason a tendon complaint needs a loading plan, not only a rub. Rotator cuff and neck pain visits often start with that sequence.

Questions patients ask

How is a structural scoliosis different from a functional posture?

A structural curve is rotated and remains when you bend forward, often with a rib or lumbar prominence. A functional posture can look curved because of pain, habit, or leg length and may improve when that driver changes. Photos and gait can suggest which pattern is present. They do not replace the measurement and medical judgment of the physician who manages a true curve.

Can adult chiropractic care straighten my structural curve?

No. Functional Restoration Institute does not claim to straighten a structural scoliosis in adults. Adjustments or mobilization may calm a painful segment, and exercise may improve how you carry load, but the curve itself is not the outcome we promise to erase. Anyone offering that promise is describing a different service than the one provided here.

Who should decide on bracing or breathing treatment for the curve?

The physician or specialist already managing the scoliosis. Bracing thresholds and breathing or curve-specific programs are their call. This office will not replace that plan. If you wear a brace, bring the schedule so exercise fits around it. Pain relief and general load tolerance can still be addressed here without pretending to manage the curve's medical course.

What if my teenager's curve is still progressing?

A progressing adolescent curve belongs with the physician who monitors growth, bracing, and, when needed, surgical discussion. Chiropractic care can look at pain and movement. It is not a substitute for that surveillance. Please do not delay those visits because a posture exercise felt helpful. The two kinds of care answer different questions.
