Metabolic Syndrome Treatment in Tustin, CA

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster your physician recognizes: waist size, blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol. FRI does not replace that diagnosis. The role here is lifestyle, nutrition, and labs beside the physician who is already following the cluster, without a promised change in any single number. For patients coming from Tustin, the office is about 16 miles away, 25–40 minutes, by the 55 south to the 73 toward Mission Viejo.

The cluster your physician already uses

Waist measurement, blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, and HDL are the pieces clinicians group when they talk about metabolic syndrome. Your physician applies the cutoffs and makes the diagnosis. FRI does not invent those ranges, and it does not relabel you from a conversation about diet.

You might have been told the cluster is present even though you feel fine, or you might feel tired after meals and short of breath on stairs. Both are reasons to ask what is driving your particular mix. Dr. Sani Kohen, D.C. and Dr. Tara Kohen, D.C. start with which pieces are actually off.

FRI's role beside that physician

Functional Medicine here is lifestyle, nutrition, and additional lab context. It is not a replacement for the primary physician who manages blood pressure and glucose medication. If you have diabetes, that page explains why metformin and insulin stay with the prescriber. This page is the wider cluster, which you can have with or without a diabetes label.

Blood pressure symptoms such as chest pain, a severe headache, or shortness of breath at rest need medical care the same day. A nutrition appointment is not the place to manage a hypertensive emergency. Keep the clinician who adjusts those drugs.

Lifestyle and food as the actual work

Meal rhythm, protein, walking, and strength you can repeat are the tools. Sleep loss and a weekly alcohol pattern belong in the same plan because they move triglycerides and morning glucose for many people. There is no brand diet and no supplement dose on this page.

The weight loss page is about scale, muscle, and pain that blocks training. Metabolic syndrome can exist at many body sizes, so the goal is not automatically a number of pounds. FRI does not promise pounds and does not make GLP-1 claims.

Labs that add context without a new diagnosis

Advanced bloodwork can fill gaps your physician wants to see, such as a fuller lipid look or glucose markers, and the interpretation of disease stays with that physician. A thyroid panel is added only when thyroid symptoms are part of the stall.

Functional medicine at FRI does not replace a primary physician, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, or mental health clinician. Nutrition and supplementation follows the labs you have. Chiropractic Sports Medicine and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation help when joints are why the walking never starts.

What to expect when you are seen for Metabolic Syndrome

A complimentary 20-minute consultation is a fit if you want lifestyle support beside your physician, not a new diagnosis. FRI is out of network, provides superbills, and accepts HSA and FSA funds. Hours are Monday–Thursday, 9–6.

Bring blood pressure readings, lipid panels, and glucose labs you already have. The plan talks about food, sleep, and movement. Medication doses stay where they are unless your prescriber changes them.

Fees, referrals, and the doctors

Out of network. Superbill. HSA and FSA. No referral required. We will not change a prescription from your physician. Emergency symptoms, including sudden neurologic loss, go to the ER rather than to La Alameda.

Drs. Sani and Tara Kohen practice at FRI. Their backgrounds are on the about page. The suite and gym are on the office page.

Old Town, the Legacy, and the North Tustin hills

Tustin has three different weeks. Old Town is walkable, with short blocks and a lot of sitting in cafes and small offices. Tustin Legacy, on the old base, is wide, new, and built around a car. North Tustin and the hills toward Foothill are grades, older homes, and a drive down to the 55. A low back from Legacy commuting is not a knee from a North Tustin hill. We ask which one you live in before we guess at a load.

The District and the shopping around the Legacy add standing errands on top of desk jobs. Neck pain and headaches often belong to the screen. Knee pain and hip pain show up when hill residents add steps without a plan. Plantar fasciitis shows up in people whose walking is almost all concrete between the car and a door.

South on the 55

The 55 south to the 73 is the usual path to La Alameda. About 16 miles. Twenty-five minutes is a good day. Forty is a 55 that is not cooperating. Address: 26400 La Alameda, Suite 100, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Parking at the building. Monday through Thursday, 9 to 6.

Do not book the visit as a gap between school pickup in Old Town and a meeting. The exam needs you present, not halfway back on the freeway in your head. Call (949) 312-1754. A complimentary 20-minute consultation is available if you want to meet the doctors before an evaluation.

Chiropractic, rehab, and labs from Tustin

McKenzie Method work is a strong fit when back or neck pain has a direction that makes it better or worse. Corrective exercise is the homework. Adjustments are used when a specific joint is restricted, after the screen that says a thrust is appropriate.

Functional medicine visits cover thyroid, sleep, and gut health when those are the actual complaint. The Tustin chiropractor page collects the local routes into the three pillars.

Extra context on Metabolic Syndrome

Write down the five pieces as your physician stated them, even if one was called borderline. Note the last blood pressure reading you remember and whether you were rushed or rested. Add a typical dinner, including alcohol, and the hour you actually sleep. Those details explain triglyceride and glucose patterns better than a new slogan about metabolism. If a statin or a blood pressure pill was recently changed, bring the date. FRI will not alter it. If walking hurts, name the joint. A cluster on paper and a knee that will not bend are both part of why the plan stalls.

You should leave knowing which number belongs to your physician and which habit belongs to this week. Food and walking are the work. Labs add context. They do not create a second diagnosis. Chiropractic Sports Medicine and Neuromuscular Rehabilitation can make the walking possible. Functional Medicine does not replace the prescriber who manages glucose and blood pressure. No visit here promises that triglycerides, HDL, or the scale will hit a target. If a change in those numbers would alter a drug, your physician is the one who acts. Bring the labs you already have.

Questions patients ask

Can FRI diagnose metabolic syndrome?

Your physician is the one who applies the cluster of waist, blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, and HDL. FRI does not replace that diagnosis or invent cutoff numbers. The visit can help you understand which pieces are yours and can organize nutrition and labs beside that physician. Bring the results they already ordered so the story stays consistent.

Will lifestyle work replace my blood pressure medication?

No. Do not stop a blood pressure drug, a statin, metformin, or insulin because you changed food or started walking. Those decisions belong to the prescribing physician. Lifestyle support can sit beside the prescription. If readings change, tell that clinician. FRI will not taper a medication for you.

Is this the same as diabetes or weight loss?

No. Diabetes is a glucose disease with its own medication rules. Weight loss is a conversation about scale, muscle, and training barriers. Metabolic syndrome is the physician's cluster, and you can qualify with a mix of those pieces. The pages are separate so a waist measurement is not treated as a diabetes diagnosis, and a diabetes diagnosis is not reduced to a diet.

Do I need a hormone test?

Only if the history asks a hormone question, such as cycle change or a clear cortisol and sleep problem. A DUTCH test is not automatic for this cluster. Advanced bloodwork is the more direct tool for lipids and glucose context. Thyroid testing waits for thyroid symptoms. Extra kits are not a sign of a more serious visit.
